lockA few years ago, I ran into a guy who coaches youth football. We talked about our sons and their experiences playing football and preparation for college. Since his son already transitioned to college, his advice to me was to establish “Team Dustin” (Dustin is my son’s name by the way).

What did he mean?

Establishing “Team Dustin” meant gathering a strong network of people who could assist him (and us) in his dream of going to college That’s no easy feat by the way. There are thousands of applicants for a limited amount of openings.  To get in, you need to have a lot of blocks checked off and have strong letters of recommendation.  Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a team to get a kid to college.

Personally, I’ve always managed to surround myself with a great network of people who I consider “Team Mack.” Some people have been on the team for years and some have come along more recently. There are so many people who have helped me find success and I know I couldn’t have made it without them.  I like to think I’ve been on a few teams myself.  It’s really fun helping people achieve their dreams.

Who’s on your team?

Have you ever listed the people who’ve helped you along the way? If you have, did you take the time to thank them? More importantly, have you made yourself available to be on someone’s team?  There is no shortage of folks out there that have big dreams but need someone to come alongside them and help them achieve them.

This week, take some time to put together a roster of your team.  You might be amazed at how many people support you.  I’m always grateful for “Team Mack” and invite you to join come onboard!  I’d be happy to return the favor.
