Well, the years start coming and they don’t stop coming,
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running.
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what’s wrong with taking the backstreets?
You’ll never know if you don’t go
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow
Hey now, you’re an All Star get your game on, go play.
Hey now, you’re a Rock Star get the show on, get paid.
(And all that glitters is gold)
Only shooting stars break the mold
All Star – Smashmouth
Last week, our burning question of the week was to talk about which celebrity you’ve met in person. After reading some of your responses, I thought for a moment about the fact that celebrities seem to have a very specific set of characteristics for them to be celebrities:
- People know who they are.
- They attract public attention. Celebrities have a large following or fanbase.
- Amazing achievements or incredible talent. They are KNOWN for something special.
- They influence public opinion on trends, fashion, and consumer behavior. Their endorsements and actions can really impact a business or product.
- Wealth. Celebrities often have a level of financial success that enables them to live a luxurious lifestyle.
- Recognition and awards. They’re frequently acknowledged for contributions to their field.
I know that some celebrities probably knew from a very young age they would be celebrities. But many of them stumble into it. One of the big stories during the pandemic was the Tiger King, Joe Exotic. Here’s a guy who was such an eccentric weirdo in his own community, Netflix made a special about him and he became a celebrity, albeit an incarcerated one.
If you think about it, all of us should be celebrities. All of us are famous, maybe not in the eyes of the general public, but in our own family in our own circles.
We attract public attention. We do this when we show up to work can we deliver a presentation when we sell something to a client.
We all have achievements or talents. I’ve won a trophy for cooking brisket at a barbecue contests. It’s not like winning the Nobel Prize, but it was pretty damn exciting for me.
Certainly you influence others. I’m sure people come to you and ask for your advice.
You can measure wealth in many ways. I’m sure most of us aren’t rolling in it, but I am sure that we are at least able to pay our bills and feed ourselves. Not to mention the wealth that we have another areas. We live out in the middle of nowhere, and there’s not a lot of wealth in our community. But when you look over the beautiful pastures and see the deer, eating the apples that fell from your apple tree, and you’re not listening to sirens and horns honking in the distance, you realize that you really are wealthy.
Finally, think about the awards and recognition that you’ve gotten in the past. Think about your greatest achievements.
Yes. YOU are a celebrity!
And in the unlikely event that you have none of the above, maybe it’s time to set a goal to become a celebrity. All that means is doing a deep dive on your own résumé and experience and learning how to package it. And hopefully one day, somebody answers the celebrity question and mentions your name.
