“Always be yourself, you’ll do your best work.” —Margi Bush

This blog series is a combined effort of The Boss Builders and Wisdom Tree Coaching. If you haven’t read Day One in this series, you may want to read it first.

Today we will continue to explore our first theme, Knowledge of Self.

Another way you can increase your Knowledge of Self is to discover your personality preferences. Awareness of your personality preferences helps you better understand what makes you unique and how your direct reports may be different from you.

Do you recall times when you work with your direct reports and you see differences in how each of you make decisions or approach priorities? Thinking through these questions may help you better understand any differences.

Here are some questions to ask yourself.

  1. How do I like to communicate with my direct reports? Active (face-to-face) or Reflective (writing emails)?
  2. How do I prefer to gather information? Concrete or Abstract?
  3. How do I prefer to handle disagreements when making decisions? Questioning or Accepting?
  4. How do I approach deadlines? Early starter or Pressure Prompted?

These are great questions to that will help you understand differences in communicating, gathering information and making decisions, and approaching deadlines. For example, one big complaint I hear is about last-minute people. These are the pressure prompted people. They typically do their best work when motivated by a deadline. It’s not to annoy people who are early starters. Which one are you?

Make a list of three positive things you will do today and put your new learnings into actions and positive behaviors?

You have 30 days left in 2018, take some time to understand your unique personality.

We wish you a day of Intent Awareness, Innate Curiosity, and Best Choices for Meaningful Change. Now go out there and be a Great Boss.
