Recently, I began wearing a Fitbit Versa smart watch.  I mainly got it because it’s getting harder and harder to see the date on my regular watch and with the Versa, I can choose from several interesting clock faces.  But a side benefit is I can track how well I sleep. The Versabreaks down sleep into different phases, heavy, light, REM, and awake.  I’m starting to see how important it is to get more sleep.  I must live up to my potential and all.

Actually that’s our thought for the month. Potential.  Have you ever looked at someone and told them they weren’t living up to their potential?  It was probably done out of correction or maybe even encouragement.  I thought about this just yesterday and realized that “potential” is just a limitation.  And unfortunately, it’s one that is self-limiting.

What if every day we decided to redefine our potential?  For example, if our potential is to have the capacity to do 10 pushups, why not push past that and do 15. Now we’ve just established a new potential.  But if we work at it, maybe our potential becomes 50 pushups?  I watched a boxing match on TV years ago and one of the fighters just got out of prison.  He said he did 1,000 pushups each day (what else would you have to do in prison I guess). He continually redefined his potential.

So maybe, starting today, let’s all try that. Reestablish a new potential each day. Think of all the limits we can smash through and progress we can make.  I’m not going to increase pushups, but I am going to try and read more and listen to more podcasts.  What will you do?
